John Terry has been stripped of the England captaincy after his affair with the ex girlfriend of England and Chelsea team mate Wayne Bridge. Terry was axed during a 12-minute meeting with Fabio Capello at Wembley today. Capello later made a statement on the FA website explaining his decision. He said: "After much thought, I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry. "As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. "What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice. "John Terry was notified first. "When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice. There is no reason to change this decision. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank The FA, particularly Lord David Triesman and Ian Watmore for allowing me to make this decision in my own time and in the best interest of the team."
Things had appeared to be looking up for Terry when lover Vanessa Perroncel decided not to sell her story. Publicist Max Clifford was reading a statement on the French lingerie model's behalf when news that Terry would lose the armband began to filter through.
Reacting to the news, Mr Clifford said: "Vanessa would also like to add that she finds it very sad that John Terry has been dropped as England captain." The petite model, wearing a black quilted jacket and black skinny jeans, stood quietly beside her publicist as he read the statement on her behalf at his west London office this afternoon. She then looked visibly shocked as she heard of the Sky News report about Terry. She shook her head and mouthed: "Oh my God."
