Advantages: This method saves time by going straight to the intended function in the video. It also reduces the loading time so that one doesn't have to waste time and bandwidth loading the whole video, only to see a small part.
Get the URL address of the YouTube link you want to share. Choose the start time (don't know where to mark the starting time? see NOTE at the end of this post) then change the original URL to new one by adding in sequence the following: #t=0m0s
- the hash character (#),
- the letter 't' (tells youtube that there is a start time specified in this video)
- the letter 'm' (for a starting minute), if there is none just put number zero '0'
- the letter 's' (for a starting second)
- change the 0 into real numbers (can not be negative, nor longer than the video time)
My original YouTube URL address is: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg8fuc1_-d8
My new URL address with my set start time will be: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg8fuc1_-d8#t=0m29s
If I wanted it to begin at the 5th minute and 23second mark, my new url will be
Disadvantages: I don't know how to set a stop time, so it will still load from where it starts till the end. I guess you can just use your mouse to click stop and close if you don't want to watch it all.
How to mark the starting time in a YouTube video:
Click play on the YouTube video, now look at the bottom right corner of the video playing to see time progress, wait until it reaches the point you desire, click pause, then mark the time, this is your start time. Now add it on the url to get a new url for sharing.
